All 10 TOS and TNG Era Star Trek Movies Are Out of Paramount + USA (Again) – TrekMovie.com

Paramount+ promotes itself as the home of Star Trek TV promoting “every series, every episode,” but it can’t say the same when it comes to Star Trek movies that come and go regularly. This month saw the largest exodus in more than a year.

Paramount+ is home to some Star Trek movies

Last November, the streaming service Paramount + was in the United States It finally became home to all thirteen Star Trek Feature Films. However, over the past year, movies have been coming and going from the service, sometimes appearing on other streaming services, and sometimes not. By September this year, all except Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan And the Star Trek Beyond It was still available. However, today the service is down to only two: 2009 star trek Film and 2013 The star slowly makes its way into the dark.

Today, ten Star Trek movie titles have been removed, which includes both the theatrical release and the new director’s release Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As of now, none of the six TOS era films or four TNG era films are available to stream in the USA. And to make matters worse, Galaxy Quest, a 1999 homage and parody of Star Trek, also came out of Paramount+ this weekend. (Galaxy Quest Available to stream on Peacock)

Star Trek movie coming out in October 2022

This removal appears to be specific to Paramount Plus in the USA. The number of Star Trek movies available in each market varies, but there are no indications of as large exits as in the US for the various international versions of Paramount Plus. For example, the service launched in the UK earlier this year with the first 11 films and they are all still available today.

Paramount+ is part of Paramount Global and is the sole owner of the Star Trek series in both film and television, including the distribution rights. While Paramount + USA didn’t provide any details about the takedown, the movies coming and going are generally related to broken licensing deals with other services, often years in the past. However, currently, out of the eleven Trek movies, it’s not only on Paramount+ Star Trek Beyond Available to stream in the USA (on AMC+). The remaining films could appear on AMC or another service, and will likely also return at some point to Paramount+. For example last year All TOS and TNG movies out of Paramount+ for AMC Only to return after a few months.

This type of licensing is common, but other media companies have been able to take full control of their franchises by taking back these deals. Disney has withdrawn streaming licensing deals for its Marvel and Star Wars movies, which have always been a part of the Disney+ service since its launch in 2019. Earlier this year, Disney also brought All Marvel Originals on Netflix Such as reckless And the Luke Cage.

Paramount Global has made prioritizing its own streaming services a corporate policy in recent years, slashing the company’s third-party licensing revenue. This strategy can be seen on Star Trek TV shows. with the Getting out of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine from Netflix In July of this year, Paramount+ became the exclusive streaming home in the USA for all Star Trek TV series after allowing all licenses to be revoked with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. It’s unclear if or when Paramount will be able to do the same with the feature film library.
