Is sweating meat real? What do experts say about the phenomenon?

Barbecue table spread.

In 2019, I sat facing my brother whose brow was sweaty during a family dinner in Amy Squire.

Four Detroit-style pizzas sat at the table. He had eaten several slices loaded with pepperoni and prioritized the others with a layer of meat.

He said, “Oh, man.” “The meat has sweated.”

I laughed, and almost threw up my water. My parents seemed worried.

Before that, I hadn’t really heard the phrase. But the term was not new then and not now. In fact, it gets referenced a lot – many social media users are sharing photos of the meat stacked with captions like “bring the meat sweats”.
