you welcome in Hours of the weekwhere we’ll keep track of the rarest, wildest, and most sought-after watches ever spotted on celebrities.
Roger Federer played what is being described as his last ‘competitive’ match on Friday. But looking at photos from smiling training sessions earlier in the week, it didn’t take Federer long to pick up some new moves from longtime rival Rafael Nadal.
It wasn’t a surprise to see the watch on Nadal’s wrist. The Spaniard always wears one of his pointers made in collaboration with Richard Mille, the maker of ultra-strong sports watches. Recently, Nadal has been Denia wearing the RM 27-04, the latest piece to come out of his partnership with the brand. The watch features a single steel cable that interlocks and crisscross across the case to mimic a tennis racket.
What made the rivalry between Federer and Nadal so special was that they seemed to be polar opposites in everything: playstyle, personality, and moderation. The watches were another point where they differed. When Nadal shakes his RMs out on the court, Federer has never worn a watch while playing; He was more comfortable with the post-match and pre-championship ceremonial routine of collecting his belongings and pulling his chosen Rolex out of his bag.
Federer changed his approach during training sessions with Nadal. Rogue walked out not only wearing any Rolex watch, But it’s one of the most exciting new Crown releases of the year: “Destroy” (left) GMT-Master II. This is the first watch that Rolex has made specifically for the left-hander, and the green and black color combination (which collectors have dubbed the “Elf”) is also new to the brand. Coincidentally, the “destroying” design is perfect for the tennis player: the squiggly crown marks the Fed Points and doesn’t risk digging into his wrist during a swing. (Audemars Piguet customize watch Serena Williams with this configuration to allow her to wear it while playing.) Either way, the new GMT was the right partner for Federer’s last dance.
Rolex Drake Day-Date
This week’s edition of Weekly Hours only shows the heavy hitters who wear the heavy hitters. This party started as Drake in a very icy version of Day-Date. The Day-Date is known as a “President” watch and often comes dressed to fit that oval-shaped desk: polished, subtle, and buttoned. That’s what makes Drake’s version so fun – it throws a fit out the window to a diamond and sapphire blizzard.
Ed Sheeran Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
You know it was a good week for hours when the prominent collector was Ed Sheeran and his Fresh from the Royal Oak product line only mkae is in third place. This Papa Smurf watch was officially announced earlier this week (After a leak at the end of August), Sheeran is really showing off. The new watch enhances AP’s already fun experiences with ceramics – the brand enters Royal Oak all white And the all Black—Using the material to make this blue watch. This watch checks every box: the ceramic material is durable and scratch-resistant, the perpetual calendar shows off the medium pieces of art, and the blue color brings all the fun.
Apple Watch Ultra by John Mayer
As he wrote on Instagram, the Apple Watch is usually not John Mayer’s cup of tea as a mechanical watch collector. What did he win? The do-it-all Apple Watch Ultra is loaded with features, like an 86-decibel siren and a GPS that tracks the wearer’s hiking trails. That’s a win-win: Mayer adds another piece to his dazzling collection and Apple gets the most important co-brand in the world of watches.
Patek Philippe Nautilus in Melinda Gates
While ex-husband Bill Gates Famous for wearing Casio watch under $50Melinda has shown that she is not afraid to spend her vast fortune. This means mostly Donate large portions of it to charities—but also spending a small (relatively) fraction to buy a powerful watch. At the Michael Kors NYFW show, Gates wore a beautiful gold Nautilus watch. A collector’s favorite, Nautilus has earned a bad reputation As an option for the Bitcoin brothers and the new affluence, but Gates proves that it is in fact a watch capable of bringing all the wealthy together. How this cute.
